Well, yes, but this is math code, so in LyX you just go to math-mode and enter \Omega or choose the symbol from the menu. Doing it in ERT is old-school (cut)
I don't see the concern about using math mode and ERT box. it is sometimes faster and easier (and more sophisticated, too...). Regards, Diego
