I know what you mean, but I'm not looking for a "hack".
I would like the symbols to be "related" to each other in the same way a
superscript on the right is "related" to the text after which it
appears. And anyhow, as you said, it doesn't look too good this way.

If you open an 'inline formula', type ^2<cursor right>A, you should
have a left superscript?
It's not entirely nice, because the A is tilted right (being italic).
