Well I am using edgy and I see little "flakiness". It is actually more stable in my experience than LTS Dapper. I suspect two trends occur with Ubuntu:

1) The short release cycle (6 months) means that some bugs are not properly sorted out.

2) On the other hand all linux apps are overall slowly getting more mature and stable so if you use the latest distro you use (in principle) somewhat more stable software. Of course when major new features are added to an app this argument is not valid anymore.
