I'm afraid this doesn't work. I'm cc'ing the author of this excellent package.
In the meantime, perhaps anyone worried about backward compatibility SHOULD NOT 
UPGRADE the Memoir package?

try
\DisemulatePackage{setspace}
in preamble.

It'll be increasingly difficult to support this class if it keeps continuing cooking its own soup this way.
