You can enter circumflex accents in ASCII. In Mac OS X, switch your OS keyboard to "British" (identical to American but allows one to use keyboard shorcuts in LyX 1.4.3), and type รข as "option-i a." Or in Windows: http://home.earthlink.net/~awinkelried/keyboard_shortcuts.html Or, hit Cmd+M (or Ctrl+M) twice and enter \^a. This is ERT but also WYSIWYG and no packages need to be loaded. mg
