So you have crash problems with both 1.4.4-1 and 1.4.4-2 that are 
unrelated to MiKTeX?

Can you please install 1.4.4-2, run LyX with the following command line

lyx.exe -dbg any

and send me the log (right click > copy to clipboard)? That may help to 
solve this problem.
