I also had difficulties installing the aspell dictionary manually, when LyX 1.4.4-4 failed to download the dictionary automatically on installation.
This is what worked for me: - Download and run aspell6-en-6.0-0.exe - For the destination folder, choose C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aspell\Dictionaries (The default was C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60) This dictionary path corresponds to the following Windows registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Aspell\Dictionary Path Cheers, Brian
