If you are writing a novel, there is little reason to use anything other than the normal "book" class. I used lyx to publish a cookbook that had a lot of drawings and needed a lot of fine tuning on layout. I used the memoir class but the koma-scripts would have worked as well. I ended up with memoir mainly because I like the documentation that comes with it. I would like to use lyx in all my writing, but there is a problem that I haven't learned how to deal with. I need multiple indexes, and lyx isn't as convenient as emacs + auctec + reftex for getting the indexes marked while writing. Would love to hear any comments on this problem.
