JFTR: There is only a "german edition" of the JabRef manual in PDF
format, no English one. But there are of course the English help files,
which are also available online:

Though this feature seems not to be documented, but it's also available
from the GUI, in the "Tools" menu: "New subdatabase based on AUX file".
