Hmm didn't know about that. I'm trying to typeset something like P(x_ | mu_), so if I use underline, the x's and the mu's bars will not be aligned. Is there anything that can be done?

I want to write this: \underbar{\mu} But I get compilation errors. Is this a LaTeX issue? How can I avoid it? I don't really want to use underline instead of underbar because then the vertical alignment gets all weird. Thanks! Alex
