Hi Melanie,

I don't know exactly what that error message means, but I know how to
troubleshoot it. Start by temporarily replacing that layout file with an
empty layout file (or empty of everything but what's necessary to compile a
dummy layout file -- someone on the list can tell you the minimum necessary).
Then reconfigure, and see if you get the same message. If so, the problem has
nothing to do with the particular layout file and might be a problem with LyX
or its setup.

If the empty file does not produce the error message, start adding things back
one at a time, reconfiguring each time, until the symptom recurs. The last
thing you added in is the culprit -- continue narrowing it down.
