Hi,
I have just installed LyX (1.4.4) through Cygwin on my Windows XP system.
When in math mode, I can type \frac and then press SPACE I will get the
fraction symbol. Also it works for the \sqrt symbol. However, all the Greek
letters are not displayed. For example, when I type in \alpha, it just
returns "alpha" in the box, not the symbol. I can only see the symbol after
I export my document to the pdf format.
On the other hand, for the LyX (1.3.6) under the SUSE 10.2 system on my work
computer, all Greek letters appear immediately after I type in the
corresponding latex code.
I went to the LyX wiki pages and found an article talking about using
instant Preview. However, it seems not to be the case here. I checked the
Preferences->Graphics->Instant-Preview of the LyX on my SUSE system, the
instant preview is Not on; but there I still got the instant Greek letters
as I type in its latex code.
I then came back to my LyX on my Windows system. when I enabled the
"instant-preview", it DOES give me greek letters AFTER I finished the Latex
command typing and jumping out of the math mode box. It obviously took a
while for the Preview to process the command and insert in the Greek letters
produced. This behavior of showing the Greek letters after I enabled the
"instant preview", seems works in the same way as I use auc-tex inside emacs
when I use emacs to edit a latex file: it took a while to generate the
required images.
So I am wondering what could be done to enable this immediate display of
mathematical symbol inside math mode box as I type in the latex commands,
just like how it works on my SUSE system. The problem seems to be not
related with preview-latex. Is this just a problem for the Windows version
of lyx (ported through cygwin) ?
Thanks a lot for your help,
Zhi
Use the link ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/BaKoMa4LyX-1.1.zip to
download the BaKoMa fonts. Unpack the zip archive to a temporary
directory somewhere. Now run the Windows font applet from the Control
Panel, and use it to install the eight BaKoMa fonts. After they're
installed, you can erase the temp directory - but you might want to hang
onto the zip file, in case you need to reinstall them. Restart LyX and
math fonts should work.
Recent versions of LyX for Windows put these fonts in
<lyx>\Resources\fonts, but for some unknown reason they don't always
work. You can try use the Windows font applet to install them from that
folder, without the zip download.
