I read that my printer wants to use PDF/X-1a:2001 for best printing results.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/X states: "PDF/X-1a:2001, Blind exchange in CMYK + Spot Colors, based on PDF 1.3" The PDF version numbers have the scheme 1.Acrobat version - 1 So Acrobat 4 uses PDF version 1.3.
How can you tell what PDF setting is in use? For example, one of my books is: Producer: pdfeTeX-1.21a
You have to check what PDF version was produced by what pdfTeX version here: http://www.tug.org/applications/pdftex/ (The current version is pdftex 1.40.6 and produces PDF 1.5.) regards Uwe
