It looks like you use a math box to get the (R) in the upper index position, right? Maybe you use Document>Settings>Math: use AMS auto and the AMS package has problems here? Try Document>Settings>Math: use AMS always for a consistent behaviour. (Well, this might in the first place be "no (R) index in any file.) Try Text in Math: (Ctrl-M for a math-box, ^ for upper index, Ctrl-M for text-in math) If all fails, provide a minimal example. GM
