Paul,

OSes aside, computers sometimes do things that are inexplicable to us mere
humans. This was one of those sporatic, spastic computer tantrums that
resolved itself via benign neglect over the weekend.

Could it be a permissions problem (pdflatex running from an account that
doesn't have read access to the PDF file)?

No, because the script writes the early parts of the report, and generates
the plots, then incorporates those plots in the middle of the report.

Anyway, it's back to working. But, it certainly refused to work all day
Friday.

Thanks,

Rich
