Hi!
Is there a way to mark some text, and then put a copy of it somewhere
else in the document, so that when ever I change the original text the
copy changes with it?

No, but. . .
What I am think of is to have a cross-reference, and beside it the
name of the chapter/section but I don't want to change in many places
every time I change the name of chapter/section.
. . .put a label on the section or chapter, and then just use the
cross-references feature (maybe with a formatted reference). This
works nicely. In fact, the excellent cross-reference feature is one
of the two primary reasons I still use LyX and LaTeX based things
instead of OpenOffice.org, given that the latter is in much wider use
and can deliver a document format in even wider use.
This works, but not with *names* of chapter. You can do it with ERT,
though, using the nameref package. Implementing support for this in LyX
is on my todo list: http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3221.
