Thanks. I was under the impression that I don't have to compile the master. I thought I can compile only the child document and still get the common macros and settings.
The reason I wanted this is because I have a rather large document and I use XeTeX, which is _really_ slow. Compiling the entire file takes ages, so I wanted to split it into smaller chunks. I guess the solution is to just copy the preamble into each child document. Best, Florin
