  I found nothing when I searched the wiki with 'pdf eps'. Regardless, I see
that the default file conversions for pdf -> eps and eps -> pdf use ps2pdf
so that should be OK.

Could you describe the difference? Are you using microtype?

  No, I'm not using microtype. I think that xpdf and acroread display the
Pallitino typeface differently (xpdf looks sharper), yet the images display
with greater sharpness in acroread. Go figure. But, when printed, both look
fine.
