But this implies that LyX supports them completely.

OK, but when a standard user gets a document where these commands are used and copy a formula from the document to his one, he gets an uncompilable document. As the commands don't no longer appear as red command in LyX but as image, an average user won't be able to find the problem.

I'm no fan of hidden features that are only usable by a few developers since normal users won't find them in the docs.
