Your instructions worked perfectly, and 1.6.3 is stable enough to keep LyX up the whole time I tested it (15 minutes), so I assume it's stable for hours or days. By the way, I wasn't sure what you meant by "Close anything that can't outrun you when it's done" so I ignored that part. Thanks again. SteveT
