Also note that the Chicago Manual of Style requires a comma after e.g., as it does with "for example".

Personally, I would use a "Thin Space" in this case (Insert > Formatting > Thin Space or Ctrl-Shift-<space>). But this depends on the micro-typographical conventions/the taste you adhere to).
