AW: xy-pic: referencing diagrams?

In case I was not too clear below, I am referring to the package 
xy-pic.

how can diagrams created with the xy-package be labelled for 
references? Furthermore, I would like to label the diagram with 
"Diagram #label". How can this be done?

This is known for equations and that works pretty well. Now I would 
like to reference to diagrams within my document while the diagrams 
are labelled like, say, tables.
