Hi list,
I was trying to make a checklist and wanted to use a square as tic box.

I'm using LyX 1.6.4 as of 2009-08-22 on a Lenovo T61 with gentoo linux.

The following steps produce an error:

1. Open new document
2. >Insert >Special character >Symbols >Geometrix shapes
3. Choose the first symbol (the biggest square offered)
4. Compile

Error messages from LaTeX protocol:
-----------------------------------

! Illegal parameter number in definition of \...@family.

                   1
l.55 {{\fontencoding{U}\fontfamily{#1}
                                      \selectfont%
You meant to type ## instead of #, right?
Or maybe a } was forgotten somewhere earlier, and things
are all screwed up? I'm going to assume that you meant ##.

LaTeX Font Info: Try loading font information for U+#1 on input line 55.
LaTeX Font Info: No file U#1.fd. on input line 55.

LaTeX Font Warning: Font shape `U/#1/m/n' undefined
(Font) using `U/cmr/m/n' instead on input line 55.

! LaTeX Error: Missing \begin{document}.

See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
Type H <return> for immediate help.
 ...

l.57   \symbol{#2}
                  }}
You're in trouble here. Try typing <return> to proceed.
If that doesn't work, type X <return> to quit.

! Missing number, treated as zero.
<to be read again>
                   ##
l.57   \symbol{#2}
                  }}
A number should have been here; I inserted `0'.
(If you can't figure out why I needed to see a number,
look up `weird error' in the index to The TeXbook.)

! You can't use `macro parameter character #' in horizontal mode.
<recently read> ##

l.57   \symbol{#2}
                  }}
Sorry, but I'm not programmed to handle this case;
I'll just pretend that you didn't ask for it.
If you're in the wrong mode, you might be able to
return to the right one by typing `I}' or `I$' or `I\par'.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Inbspection of the generated LaTeX code didn't reveal anything to me, but my level of LaTeX knowledge is rather restricted.

Is this kown behaviour?
Does anybody know a workaround?

Any help welcome

Greetings from Munich

Hellmut
