Typesetting poetry

I'm using Komsascript book, and have a fair amount of poetry in my
manuscript. But the VERSE environment is not very satisfactory: The main
problem is that there is too much space between one line and the next, and I
must absolutely adjust that. It would also be nice if I had greater
flexibility for laying out the poems in the manuscript.
