This can be achieved by the isomath package http://www.ctan.org/cgi-bin/ctanPackageInformation.py?id=isomath Another possibility is to use index notation and Einstein summation, e.g. D_{i}=\varepsilon_{ij}E_{j}+P_{i}^{\mathrm{rem}} This has also the advantage that the description of the tensor operations is more precise.
