But Tennessee gave me another idea that would have worked as well: copy the curly double quote character from the source code window into Lyx's standard search and replace dialog box. My problem was that I could not find a way to enter the curly double quote character into the dialog box. I would post a snippet, but the cut and paste from Lyx to Google mail changes the curly quotes to regular quotes. See enclosed file for a minimal example.
