You can type \hline followed by a space at the start of the leftmost cell of the row below the horizontal bar you want to draw. LyX may or may not display it initially (LyX 1.6.7 seems to be a bit inconsistent about it, sometimes displaying \hline verbatim); if you don't see the line, copy the matrix and paste it onto itself, which seems to jog LyX's memory about what the hline command does. Even without the jogging, it will show up correctly in the compiled document. /Paul PS: Looking forward to claiming the Bunyan trophy ... again ...
