I have debian lenny 5.0.5, for amd64. Fortunately, I never experienced such a problem (only slow startup due to file system checks). I don't know enough about the computer (dual boot, notebook, hard-disk or flash (SSD) disk), ... to be able to help. Could you try to boot a live linux (Knoppix or the install discs or something like that) for diagnosis? Günter
