Hi Peter,

are you using Lyx 1.6.8? If so, go to Tools>>Preferences, and select
Output>Latex on the left side.
You'll see many options in the right part of the panel. In the field
"BibTeX command" write 'biber' or (if you are using Unicode bib files)
'biber -u'
That will start biber instead of bibtex.

I think you are referring to Lyx 2, here. I am not sure which version
you are using. In the latest SVN (downlaoded on 12/27) it is one of
the options from the pop up list, alongside bibtex and bibtex8.

Of course, you need to call biblatex with the backend=biber option.

Search is not great, I agree. But if you access it through google
groups (groups.google.com) there is a search field. You need to be a
registered google user to use google groups, I believe (registration
is free, of course, but some people do not like that anyways).
