I meant 90 seconds, not 90 minutes, sorry... MikTeX (2.8) is up to date and not running in the background, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. I have also noticed that if I make any changes to the preferences LyX locks for a couple of minutes. Tried suspending virus software, but that didn't help, either. I didn't have this problem with beta 2, and I can't figure out what might have changed on my system.
I also noticed that running the uninstaller doesn't remove that program folder from the Start Menu (of course this is probably unrelated to the problem I'm having). John > miktex update running in background and didnt finish properly? > pavel
