There is a "timeline" LaTeX package including an example at CTAN: http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex209/contrib/timeline I have not tested it and don't know which of the requirements it meets but may be a starting point. It is very old, requires LaTeX 2.09 wich means compatibility problems with some other packages. Günter
