I have added the
appropriate ldf file to /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/generic/babel and have
edited /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/generic/babel.sty to reference it, but I
still get errors that the ldf file is not found and that the language is
undefined.
You need to tell LaTeX where it can find your new ldf-file. Therefore run the command
"texhash".
In every case, also write a message to the comp.text.tex news group. The people there can tell you
more and also review your ldf-file.
