I just included these two packages in the preamble and so far it everything
seems to work. I just printed the pdf from another computer, which used to
crash the pdf viewer. I will do some more testing though.

@ Richard: Yes, I agree. It's certainly not a LyX issue. I should have been
more clear on this. The reason why I prefer pdf graphics is that it is possible
to scale them.
I am using a Mac by the way. So the files work on my computer using Preview but
not on a different mac.
@Michael: How do I check this?
