How to remove letters from Appendix? [Appendix A -> Appendix]

Hi all,

how can I remove the lettering of the Appendix?

Example:

When I start the appendix, the PDF output file displays "Appendix A". I would
like it to simply show "Appendix", and would like cross-references in the text
to show "Appendix".
