Thanks Ingar.  I just want tiny little marginal notes (so I used 'tiny')
in a document to point out where I have inadequate information and must
correct things before I'm really "done".

It worked perfectly with

\let\oldmarginpar\marginpar
\renewcommand\marginpar[1]{\-\oldmarginpar[\raggedleft\tiny #1]%
{\raggedright\tiny #1}}
