The "LyX code" environment is a paragraph style that preserves whitespace in the output. When pasting from somewhere into LyX, there is a Choice between: Edit>Paste Special>Selection and Edit>Paste Special>Selection, Join Lines where the first variant keeps line ends and the second lets paragraphs flow.
