The reason bibresource requires, counterintuitively, the .bib prefix is that biber is or will be very soon capable of processing other biblio formats, such as Endnote. Hence the need for a prefix to differentiate among the input types. And I agree, the wiki needs updating. I may try to do a bit of it over the holidays.
