I agree that this would be excellent, but what people usually are
requesting with this is to be able to edit the LaTeX source. That would
not be easy to allow, since the same problems arise here as with LaTeX
"roundtrip". Still, I agree that it would be a great feature, and it
might be worth considering it as a GSoC project for next year.
A different suggestion would be to allow direct editing of the LyX
source. Now the problem is that it would be very easy for people to
produce invalid LyX code. And if you do want to do that sort of thing,
then you can always open the LyX file itself in a text editor.
