Hey Mike, Are you using a master document? If so, I'd suspect the problem is in the way you did that. I write 100K+ books in LyX as a single file, and have no problems with performance or anything else.
I'd like to hear more about the novels you write in LyX. I wonder how many of us on this list use it to write products for sale, besides you and I.
