  Hello,

  sorry for the delay : I was answering your mail's questions, when 
my computer's power failure died. I won't be able to work on it for
some time, unfortunately.

  Before crashing, I had mv'd my .lyx directory, made make install
(sorry, I don't remember all the output), and upon starting lyx,
it complained in a window "unable to" <I don't know what> ".lyx" .
Then it dropped a core.

  That's it. Maybe I can get more info soon, but don't count on it
.
