I am pleased to announce the release of plzip 1.1.

Plzip is a massively parallel (multi-threaded), lossless data compressor based on the lzlib compression library, with a user interface similar to the one of lzip, bzip2 or gzip.

Plzip can compress/decompress large files on multiprocessor machines much faster than lzip, at the cost of a slightly reduced compression ratio. On files large enough (several GB), plzip can use hundreds of processors. On files of only a few MB it is better to use lzip.

Plzip uses the lzip file format; the files produced by plzip are fully compatible with lzip-1.4 or newer.

The lzip file format is designed for long-term data archiving. It is clean, provides very safe 4 factor integrity checking, and is backed by the recovery capabilities of lziprecover.

The sha1sums are:
635a6b0cebb0aa6f9ac8090384b335754a617ada plzip-1.1.tar.lz
22d3bba78b9219e7976372e24773d3abc0ff4563 plzip-1.1.tar.gz

This release is also GPG signed. You can download the signature by appending ".sig" to the URL.

Changes in version 1.1:

  * Plzip now shows the progress of compression at verbosity level 2 (-vv).

* Signals "SIGUSR1" and "SIGUSR2" are no more used to signal a fatal error.
