There is a difference - increaing slots, which I presume is (more) buffering,

testing) while plzip buffers the decompressed output in blocks of 1 MiB.   I 
don't think this buffer is that big. Manual says default value for of 
--out-slots is 64 for plzip. That would mean they bot have similarily big 
output buffer, but the difference in time suggests the output buffer for lzip 
is much smaller.   You may want to have a look at logs in attachment.
