I guess I can chime into the conversation. A few weeks ago, I bought an NEC PC-8300 from eBay and then bought a REX from Steve, within the last two weeks.
I did some significant testing with it (I would not yet call it comprehensive) and I encountered no such issues. I created images, restored images and refreshed images with no issues. I also tested several option ROMs that are supposed to work with the 82/83 devices and worked, for the most part. There was a problem with a small test file I created in Lucid and when I tried to load back in, it locked the computer to the point where I had to cut off power to the memory completely to recover, but... after trying it again, it worked! Go figure. So, I will do more testing, focusing on the issues that Kyle is seeing and will report back. For now, I really don't have issues with the REX.
