I'd recommend using TinkerCAD, its a browser based program thats completely free and very simple to use. The files export to various laser cutter or 3D printer formats including the popular .STL. I've printed many objects and devices on my MakerGear M2. Also Thingiverse hosts tons of open source objects made by the community. Its a great resource!
