I'd recommend using TinkerCAD, its a browser based program thats completely 
free and very simple to use. The files export to various laser cutter or 3D 
printer formats including the popular .STL. I've printed many objects and 
devices on my MakerGear M2. Also Thingiverse hosts tons of open source objects 
made by the community. Its a great resource!
