virtualt is the emulator program. vt_client is for scripting unit tests,
etc.

Do you get *any* messages at all? When I run the Linux binary on Red Hat
enterprise I get:

error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.9: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

but this is due to RHEL's ancient libraries. A recent Linux Mint should be
okay. If you can't get the pre-built binary to work, you might need to
compile it from source yourself. I've never built the Linux version so I
don't know if it's simple; trying to build for OSX seems impossible due to
the issues with fltk.
