Well the first question would be: how will you hook them in? Would they all
be two-byte instructions? Would you have to deprecate/redefine one of the
"undocumented" instructions?   At least the BASIC ROM doesn't use the
undoc'd instructions. Anything recent could be recompiled.

The other question would be power. You were the one who explained to me
that FPGAs can be power hungry, years ago during ReMem dev. Perhaps that
has changed in the last decade (we've known each other longer than that :-)
 ). Or, I wonder could an 8085 core fit in a CPLD?
