Well Desklink and its MacOS cousins were commercial programs. Without
the PDD protocol all the Model 100 has is ASCII downloads. (Or Xmodem,
but AKAIK there was only 1 xmodem program that actually did binary
downloads, and it was also commercial.)

So yes, the filename.extension on the PC/CIS/whatever side didn't
really matter.
