Ok sounds like the consensus is to keep the image size limit. If you want to post "look at me with my model t" you'll have to shrink it, link it, or Facebook/instagram it.
For special cases I occasionally approve a larger image if you let me know. But the default limit is 64k. One trick to keep in mind is that limit applies to the whole email. So if you do post something big make sure to trim out or remove quoted emails. In fact it is wise to trim emails to the minimum in general especially if you receive the digest. Cheers, -- John.
