Roger,
Try:
- Power on
- Enter (goes into BASIC)
- Type: BEEP
- Hit Enter
- Listen if you hear a beep
This will tell you if the processor is running or if it is just an LCD
issue. If no beep heard, maybe needs a new NiCD battery or a good
overnight charge. Otherwise might be an LCD issue.

I hadn't used my M100 in probably a month or two but the recent null
modem discussion inspired me to fire it up. When I power on, all I
have is a blank screen. I can adjust the contrast but there's nothing
else.
I've followed the steps
at http://bitchin100.com/wiki/index.php?title=Recovering_an_Unresponsive_Laptop
including the various resets, except I don't have a wall charger so I
left it off overnight with the memory power switch on, with four brand
new AAs. Then I took the batteries out and turned memory power off and
left it alone for probably an hour.
I think the key is somewhere with memory power. If the mem power
switch is off and I turn power on, it's completely dead. I can't even
adjust the contrast. But as long as the mem power switch is on, I can
turn the power on and darken the lcd with the contrast knob. Also of
note, as long as mem power is on, when I turn the power switch off the
red low battery LED blinks rapidly once - which I think is normal, at
least my M100 has always done that. If mem power is turned off and I
switch off the power, the LED does nothing.
Anything else I can try? Do I need a new backup battery? To my
knowledge the one that is in there is the original. This is a
relatively recent LCD that I installed myself five or six years ago,
and I did open the case just to verify all those connections are good.
And anyhow I can darken every pixel with the contrast knob so I'm
tempted to rule that out anyhow.
