Hi, I'm sitting here using my IBM keyboard from 1991 (some people claim these are the best, and I have several saved up for when this one stops), and the non-letter or number keys (like shift, enter, the arrows (but not the number pad) are a darker grey compared to the tan/off white of the letters and numbers. I never really thought about it, but I like the feel of these ibm keyboards and use them on several of my computers. Pretty sure it is the same even on the older ones -- I think my oldest is 1984 or 85.... Big DIN plug to small DIN plug to a USB adapter......

I don't know why, it was never really discussed in the 80's - that's just how it was. - Kim
